Real Madrid Remains The Number One Team in Europe – UEFA Ranking


Despite ending the season without a major trophy, Real Madrid has been ranked as the number one team according to the latest UEFA club-ranking released recently.

According to the ranking, 2015 UEFA Champions League winners, Barcelona was not able to dislodge Real Madrid as number one despite racking up more points (38.042) more than any other team this season.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, English Champions, Chelsea and Athletic Madrid make up the top five.

The top ten was rounded up by Benfica, Schalke 04, Porto,Arsenal and the most valued club in world football,Manchester United.

The UEFA rankings are based on the results of clubs from the past five seasons of the Champions League and Europa League.

Teams eliminated in the first qualifying round get 0.5 points while those eliminated in the next round get one point.

Teams who make it to the group stages get four points while those who win in the group stages get two points while a draw earns one.

Teams in the second round earn four points while a further point is awarded for each round beyond that a team reaches.

The points are halved in the Europa League but the same rules apply.

The club’s total coefficient is determined by the sum of the past five seasons plus 20 per cent of the association (country) coefficient.
