Martin Skrtel headed a thunderous 97th-minute equaliser to secure Liverpool an unlikely draw against Arsenal on Sunday - and he did so despite having had his head stapled earlier in the afternoon.
Philippe Coutinho gave the Reds a deserved lead on the stroke of half-time with a delightful finish, but it lasted little over a minute as Mathieu Debuchy won an aerial duel with Skrtel to make it 1-1 at the break.
Skrtel was culpable again as Olivier Giroud peeled off him at the near post to put Arsenal into a 2-1 lead against the run of play just after the hour mark - but he made the most of the nine minutes of stoppage time (which were a direct result of a head injury he suffered in a coming together with Giroud) to atone for his mistakes and earn the Reds a point.
And the Slovakian has now revealed the extent of his injuries with some posts on social media showing that his head needed to be stapled after the collision with Giroud.
If anyone out there was thinking that staples would surely cause more damage when inserted into the human skull, rather than fix existing damage, then we're with you on that.
